Embracing Your Unique Journey: Voice Training Optional
Aug 07, 2024Hey there, fabulous folks!
I’m Renée, your friendly neighborhood gender-affirming voice teacher, and today, I want to address a comment that really got me thinking. Someone recently said, “I just don’t voice train because I don’t care. I don’t know why I just don’t. It’s not for me, you know? Is that bad?”
Let's get one thing straight: being trans isn't about ticking off a checklist of things you must do. Voice training? Totally optional. Tucking or binding? Only if you want to.
Here's the core of my philosophy: everyone deserves access to the things that make them feel more like themselves. That means:
- Hormones: Informed consent should be all you need to start.
- Binders: Should be as easy to find as a pair of jeans at your local department store.
- Self-expression: Want to change your hair and clothes to be the most fabulous, unique version of yourself? Go for it!
And if voice training is part of your journey, I'm here to help. If not, that's perfectly fine too!
For the record, I believe this freedom should extend to everyone, including cis folks. We all deserve to embrace our inner babygirl era without stressing about whether we're expressing our gender "correctly."
So, here's the takeaway: life is short, and you should be as cool and trans as you want to be. Change whatever parts of you that need changing, and leave the rest. If voice training isn’t on your radar, no worries – but if you do want to dive into it, that’s what I’m here for!
Be bold, be you, and most importantly, have fun on this wild ride we call life.
