Happy Valentine's Day 🏳️⚧️🥰✨
Feb 14, 2024Happy Valentine’s Day! Still don’t have a valentine? Well, don’t worry because I’m here to reveal to you the perfect Valentine. Hi, I’m Renée, I'm a gender-affirming voice teacher, and I’m about to magically reveal your valentine in 3… 2… 1…
Drumroll, Please...
Did you guess it? Your valentine is none other than... you! Okay, maybe that was a tad bit corny, but hear me out. If you’re transgender, especially if you're at the beginning of your transition journey, and finding it challenging to envision a world where you are loved unconditionally for who you truly are, then it's time to start by showering yourself with the love and kindness you deserve.
Treating Yourself with Love
Changing your feelings about love overnight isn’t realistic, but you can start by doing little things that show yourself some love and appreciation. It could be as simple as buying yourself flowers, cooking your favourite meal, indulging in a movie marathon, or taking a leisurely stroll dressed in an outfit that makes you feel incredible.
I know, it sounds cheesy, but here's my theory: everyone has a relationship with themselves. Sometimes it feels like a parent and child dynamic, or a friendship, but for me, it's romantic. I find joy in doing things for myself, like when I wash the dishes at night, I think, "Renée is going to be so happy I did this tomorrow." I treat myself with gifts, plan dates, and speak to myself with the same sweetness I would reserve for a partner.
Romancing Yourself
Sure, love with another person might come along someday, but in the meantime, I’m all the romance I need. So, if you're feeling a little lonely on this love-filled day, why not join the self-love bandwagon? Whether it's a bubble bath, a homemade meal, or simply curling up with a good book, make this Valentine’s Day about celebrating yourself.
In Conclusion
Remember, your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship in your life. So, this Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to show yourself some love. You are worthy of love, respect, and acceptance, just as you are.
